39 Failed Attempts

Originally used on a missile, WD-40 dominates the market as one of the most well-known and successful brands. The company did nearly 200 million dollars in net sales for 2016 and claims their product has more than 2,000 different uses.

But this best-selling lubricant didn't start out so successful. WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement, 40th formula". It took 40 tries to achieve the correct mixture of ingredients that the product contains today. The phrase "never give up" definitely applies to the history of the product and the efforts of its creator.

Many of us are comfortable with applying the "never give up" phrase to areas such as business and sports. But what about our prayer life? How many times have you prayed for something specific and then said, "Well, we'll see what happens"? Then you start making arrangements for Plan B just in case.

Jesus and His disciples were traveling to Jerusalem. After Jesus saw a fig tree

with leaves but no figs, He cursed the tree saying no one would eat from it again. The Bible states the tree withered instantly, but the disciples didn't see that it was withered until the following morning (Mark 11:20). The tree did die instantly from the roots up, but it took time for His followers to see the manifested results. Peter was astonished, but Jesus told him, "Have faith in God" (Mark 11:22 NKJV).

If your prayers are aligned with God's Word, you can be assured they are answered immediately. It is possible to see instant results. However, in situations that take time, applying the "never give up" principle is essential as you stand on God's Word without doubting.

During this period of time is when Satan whispers in your ear. He accuses you of not praying correctly or not being good enough. He may tell you God doesn't care, or it's just not God's will. Satan wants you to give up.

Jesus said, "If you have faith and do not doubt" you will see your prayers answered (Matt. 21:21-22 NKJV). Be confident and have faith in the promises of God. His Word is far more real than what your circumstances appear to be.

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." (John 15:7 NKJV)
