Do You Talk to Yourself?

Have you ever been caught talking to yourself? Maybe it's not such a bad thing! Earlier this year, the New York Times published an article about psychological studies on giving yourself a motivational or instructional pep talk. They concluded that self-talk has many benefits that include being able to focus, avoid distractions, and complete a task.

The Bible actually teaches a similar concept.

"You shall meditate on [God's Word] day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success" (Joshua 1:8 NKJV).

The meaning of the word "meditate" in Hebrew means to "moan, growl, utter, or speak". We should not only read God's Word but SPEAK IT. That's how you release its power! Read it aloud when you can. Preach it to yourself. And after getting it into your heart, speak specific verses to receive God's promises. When you meditate on God's Word, THEN you will prosper and be successful. Meditating "day and night" doesn't mean you can never do anything else but read the Bible. But His Word can and should become a part of your every day life. When you're at work or school, for example, pick one verse that you want to meditate on. Speak it to yourself throughout the day, thinking about each word.

Meditating on His Word is an important step to receiving God's promises. God's Word is powerful and is a necessity to living a fruitful life!
